Sliema Lose 2-1 to B'kara in the Final of the AME Cup

Sliema Wanderers lost the final of the AME Cup to B'kara where in front of a good attendance, the Blues gave a solid account of themselves. The Blues had two harsh decisions against them when in the 81st minute, referee Alan Mario Sant decided to give a penalty to B'kara after giving an advantage to the B'kara player and with the Blues defender having cleared the ball of the line, the referee then decided to send off the Sliema goalkeeper.

Clive Mizzi has got the Blues playing to his style with a solid 4-1-3-2 formation which saw Clifford Gatt Baldacchino partnering Timotic in the centre of defence with John Mintoff on the right and Luca Martinelli on the left. Mark Scerri screened the defence with Alex Muscat, Mucchiardi and Ortega completing the midfield with Woods and Omar El Ghouti up front. The players seem to have taken to the system well.

B'kara played a high pressure game with the Blues constantly having to give long balls. The B'kara trio up front, did not give any time on the ball to the defenders of Sliema and forced them to constantly find the strikers. Sliema went into the lead early on in the game when from a corner, Timotic headed the ball into the area of omar El Ghouti, with the Norwegian scoring from close range to put the Blues 1-0 goal up. B'kara replied a few minutes later when Shola beat Henry Bonello with a well taken strike which went into the left corner and gave Henry Bonello no chance.

The game after this was dominated mostly in midfield with both sets of players fighting for every ball. Towards the end Alex Muscat had a good shot saved by Reuben Gauci and when the Blues went down 2-1 it was too late to make a recovery with 10men.
